Backpacks versus Shoulder Bags for School

Posted by veronica in Untagged

School is around the corner, and definitely you would need to buy the school supplies your child needs for school. She may also be due for another bag, given that the one she used to wear every day to school seems to be too worn out. So, what do you choose, a shoulder bag or a back pack for your child? Your daughter may have preference to one over the other, but it is also important to go over the basics with her, rather that have her carry an aesthetically pleasing bag, while not being able to carry it in a good way.

How Do You Feel About Where You Are?

Posted by Barbara Hemphill in Untagged

Barbara Hemphill

Years ago when I was first starting my organizing business in New York City, I had the privilege of hearing Dorothy Sarnoff. She was a operatic soprano, musical theater actress, and in her second career, the founder of a a company called Speech Dynamics which offered image consulting to many notable figures include Jimmy Carter, Menachem Begin, and Danielle Steel.
Although Ms. Sarnoff died in 2008, her message has no doubt impacted millions of people -- and certainly made, and continues to make, a difference in my career and my life.  She offered a 4-step strategy for anyone who was preparing to go onto the stage to make a presentation.  I have used it hundreds of times and taught to hundreds of others.  It’s very simple.  Before you walk on to the stage, say to yourself:

I’m glad I’m here.
I’m glad you’re here.
I know what I know.
And I care about you.
Taking that approach when you step on the platform goes a long way to guarantee your success.  If you focus on your audience and what you know that you feel would be of help to them, you will be calm. Research shows that the more audience members participate in a presentation, the more they will enjoy it, so you don’t have to fill up all the time with your wisdom.  Let them share theirs too!
For a presentation I did this past weekend, I used these four steps in a new way -- I shared it with my audience. Because I was co-presenting with my colleague of nearly 30 years, I said,
We’re glad we’re here.
We’re glad you’re here.
We know what we know
And we care about you.

And because it was a group of Christian women, I added one more phrase -- and God is too!   Based on the feedback from the audience, the enjoyed their morning and so did I!
As I launched a new week and talked to several people today who were feeling totally overwhelmed with work and life,  I realized that this strategy could apply in other situations as well.  One of the best ways to get a handle on how you spend your time and energy is to analyze how you currently spend it.
So here’s my challenge for you:  From time to time, stop and ask yourself:

Am I glad I’m here?  If not, why not? -- and what can you do to make sure you don’t end up there again?

Here are some of the examples of the fantastic calendar quotes for 2011:

Hey all,

As I watch this week's financial news, I'm reminded that God's economy is not Wall Street's economy. Keep going and don't panic. Thoughts?
